J-Fall 2022: Gustaf Nilsson Kotte – Web Architecture for IKEA.com – Present/Future
IKEA.com is one of the 10th largest E-commerce websites (2021). The web architecture is based on static files, supporting both static sites and client-side JavaScript applications. Static files have democratized web development for our 50 frontend teams and allow for high availability, great web performance, and low operational cost. However, we also begin to experience the limitations of this architecture, especially around A/B testing and personalization. We believe that Edge Computing will be a foundational technology that enables the teams to render HTML dynamically, while still having an available, performant, and developer experience friendly system.
